This book, by Martin James, is a complete rewrite of the first book
"Adventures with the Voodoo Crew", from 1997 and twice the
length (120.000 words compared to 60.000). Reading PRODIGY you'll
discover many little stories and facts you've never heard before.
New chapters have been added, existing chapters have been rewritten
and contain much more and new information. There's the description
of No Souvenirs, a track most of us still haven't heard, there's the
Mixmag 'Did Charly kill Rave?' story presented from a different point
of view, the breakup with Leeroy is explained in more detail than
any other journalist has ever managed to. Also covered are the different
solo careers, Maxim, Flightcrank and Liam Howlett's DJ sessions. The
book also covers the lenghty break of the band, how they finally made
a return, it briefly covers the European and Australian tours and
then finishes with a day with Liam at Rollover studios where he is
putting the final touches to Baby's got a Temper. Martin James describes
the book as being much more critical, more "adult" and more
in depth, especially about Liam Howlett.
The cover blurb says:
"Martin James is one of the most conscientious, outspoken and
honest writers working in music today --- and he's not afraid to cry!"
Annie Nightingale MBE. Drawn from seven years of exclusive interviews
and written by long time band friend (and occasional official record
company biographer) Martin James, PRODIGY is the ultimate account
of the greatest electronic punk band that ever existed. From the free
party anarchy of the Prodigy’s beginnings to 1997’s world
dominating ‘Fat of the Land’. From the incendiary globe
trotting live shows to the media frenzy surrounding the ‘Baby’s
Got A Temper’ single, PRODIGY opens a window on the backstage
shenanigans, studio sessions and solo outings of the last gang in
town.

UK hardback book with loads of photos, quotes and facts about the
guys. The book is pretty cool.. very nice color shots printed on very
good paper. There is that classic history and discography sections
as usual. There is also fact file to every member. Sadly there is
no mention about Gizz Butt and other people featured in the live shows.
The book is very good indeed.. there is only one mistake they have
messed with the One Love/Your Love singles..always they talk about
Your Love they are meaning the One Love! Anyway this may not the best
book, but really worth of money.. |

four piece musical assault troupe from Ess.ex who are quite simply
the most invigorating, intence and incredible band of their generation. From
the choreographed energy of their rave P.A.s in the early ninetiesand
the naive brilliance of "Charly" to the incendiary madness
of their festival heading shows and the hard-hitting innovation of
"Breathe". The Prodigy's fiercely confrontational music
and powerfull imagehave been proven to be an irresistible force -

the personalities, the talent and the conditions that have propelled

games and regularly awarps Playstation tips with Liam and Leeroy.
Comments:
The first serious profile of the Prodigy written with the full cooperation
of Prodigy member Liam Howlett. In the summer of 1997, music journalist
Martin James toured with the Prodigy, watching them put the final
touches on their new album 'The Fat of the Land'. Written with the
close input of Liam Howlett and drawing on exclusive interviews, he
offers an informed, in-depth look at the band and their music. Mentions
Leeroy's solo project 'The Longman' and Maxim's own solo project as
well. Also features a few nice b/w photos. This is the book you need
to have! |

“The music business is like a big trap and that’s why
I never like to put both feet in to it - I like to stand back and
laugh at it, because if you jump into the mainstream completely then
you are never going to escape. Songs like ‘Firestarter’
burst on to the mainstream and bend it, twist it. Then we retreat
back underground. That’s the best way.” Liam Howlett,
The Prodigy The Prodigy are the world's biggest selling hard dance
act - with over five million records sold and Top Ten singles in over
thirty countries, they are both internattionally successful and critically
revered. This official book reveals, in entirely the band's own words,
the thinking behind such ground-breaking relases as 'Firestarter'
and 'Breathe', and gives an insider's view on their remarkable live
show and life in The Prodigy. With dozens of unpublished colour and
duotone shots of the band backstage, live, in the studio and at home,
'The Fat Of The Land' is a unique and essential visual insight into
The Prodigy, as well a stunning snapshot of a band that have single-handedly
redefined modern music.
Comments:
This book was published by Omnibus Press in 1997. It's a true Photo
History of the Prodigy. It was collated between Martin Roach and Liam
Howlett during the making of The Fat of the Land album. Liam selected
the shots for the book from 1000 collected images. He also co-designed
it. The interviews were exclusively for the book and most of the pictures
are unpublished. This book is a visual complement to Prodigy: Electronic
Punks. The book is fantastically laid out and designed well. Filled
with awesome color and black & white photos in glossy format and
quotes from the band members. If you are a big fan, this is really
something for you! |

The Prodigy are now one of the most exciting acts in recent British
pop. Their 1991 single CHARLY was the most succesful dance record
of all time, and their first album THE PRODIGY EXPERIENCE became the
leading LP of the hardcore dance scene. It entered the charts at Number
11 and was awarded a gold disc. In 1996 they were praised for their
high powered, if not slightly scary live performances with Keith Flint
adding growing vocals to their classic sound. The singles FIRESTARTER
and BREATHE both went to Number 1 in the UK charts. This has gained
them more exposure than ever before, now rounding up fans from all
walks of life and not just the dance scene. Here is the story, a facinating
struggle and an inspiration to all music lovers.

Originating from a thriving rave scene, the Prodigy soon left their
birthplace behind and forged a highly individual vision for themselves,
in the progress producing some of the hardest and most innovative
dance music of recent years. Along the way, they have endured a disastrous
American tour, financialscandals, press witch-hunts, industry condescension,
and persecution by the authorities. Theyh ave also earned two gold

festivals and mercury award nominationm whilist still clinging on
to the underground ethos with which they were born. They are now established
